Total lunar eclipse in the UAE on Sunday evening, September 7, 2025 – 8th grade students inform
Dear school community,
This coming Sunday evening, a rare natural phenomenon will occur that will be fully visible from Abu Dhabi. We will all have the opportunity to observe a total lunar eclipse. If you don’t want to miss out on this impressive experience, be sure to check it out! In this article, you will find more information on the topic of “lunar eclipses.”
How and why does a lunar eclipse happen?
A lunar eclipse occurs when the sun, Earth, and moon are almost in a straight line and the Earth casts its shadow on the moon. Since the moon normally reflects sunlight, the Earth’s shadow causes the full moon to darken. It even appears reddish.
What are the consequences of a lunar eclipse?
A lunar eclipse has no effect on nature or humans, but only manifests itself as a temporary darkening or reddening of the moon.
How long does a lunar eclipse last?
Depending on the type, a lunar eclipse can last from about one hour to about three and a half hours, with the total phase lasting a maximum of about 100 minutes. The total lunar eclipse in Abu Dhabi will last approximately 82–83 minutes.
When does it happen?
Here are the times in the UAE for Sunday evening:
8:27 p.m. – Partial eclipse begins
9:30 p.m. – Total eclipse begins
10:12 p.m. – Maximum eclipse
10:53 p.m. – Total eclipse ends
11:56 p.m. – Partial eclipse ends
The lunar eclipse is particularly interesting for us in Abu Dhabi because it will be fully visible here – provided the sky is clear. Such events are rare and impressive!
When is the next lunar eclipse in the UAE?
Partial eclipse: July 6, 2028
Total lunar eclipse: December 31, 2028
Relevance to teaching:
The lunar eclipse fits perfectly with our teaching topic “Light,” as it allows us to observe shadows and light sources in nature!
